Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has received accolades from Afrobeats sensation Davido and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi following her win at the 67th Grammy Awards on Monday.
Tems clinched the Best African Music Performance award for her hit song Love Me Jeje, beating strong competition from fellow Nigerian artists Davido, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, and Burna Boy.
In his congratulatory message, Obi expressed his pride in the achievements of Nigerian youths, particularly in the entertainment industry.
“I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems @temsbaby, who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category,” Obi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He also commended other Nigerian artists nominated for the Grammys, emphasizing their role in placing Nigeria on the global stage.
“Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to an endless flow of talents who, through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map. I firmly remain committed to building a nation that fosters growth among the youths and helps them discover and harness their individual talents for national productivity,” he added.
Similarly, Davido celebrated Tems’ achievement on social media, writing: “Congratulations to my one and only! @chrisbrown! And to the Queen @temsbaby. We are proud of you!”
Monday’s win marks Tems’ second Grammy award, following her 2023 victory for Best Melodic Rap Performance on Future’s hit song Wait for U, featuring Drake.
