Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that he agreed to become a vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 elections. In a series of posts on his official X account Saturday, Obi addressed what he described as deliberate misrepresentation of his recent television interview, accusing “fifth columnists” of distorting his words for propaganda.
Obi reiterated his unwavering commitment to the Labour Party and to Nigeria’s development. He emphasized that anyone seeking a political collaboration with him must be transparent about their intentions.
“I am not desperate for any political position, but I am determined to see Nigeria develop,” Obi stated. He clarified that while open to partnerships, they must align with his vision for advancing the country.
The former Anambra State Governor also expressed dismay at those focusing on the 2027 elections while the nation grapples with urgent issues such as hunger, poverty, and insecurity. “I do not want to be preoccupied with 2027 while Nigerians are suffering,” he said.
Obi reaffirmed his commitment to addressing critical challenges such as bringing out-of-school children back to classrooms and improving the country’s socio-economic landscape. He made it clear that at no point did he express interest in becoming a vice-presidential candidate.
“I remain committed to the Labour Party and to building a new Nigeria. Any collaboration must be based on shared goals, not state capture or election-winning at all costs,” Obi added.
