Peter Obi Donates ₦25 Million to Healthcare Facility in Anambra

By Ayomide Otitoju

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to health, education, and poverty alleviation with a ₦25 million donation to the Immaculate Heart Sisters’ healthcare facility in Mmiata Anam, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Obi, accompanied by philanthropist Prof. Michael Ozuah, presented the cheque during a visit to the rural hospital, which he described as a lifeline for underserved communities. This facility, originally handed over to the Immaculate Heart Sisters during Obi’s tenure as governor, has since been expanded to better serve the area.

“Investing in Critical Areas for National Growth”

Reflecting on his ongoing initiatives, Obi stated, “For anyone who has followed my journey in public service, I have consistently maintained that investing in health, education, and poverty alleviation through support for small businesses and humanitarian efforts is the most effective path to national growth and development.”

Last year, Obi and Prof. Ozuah contributed ₦75 million to the IHM Health System’s Specialist Hospital in Nkpor. This latest donation is aimed at further enhancing the services provided by the Mmiata Anam facility, which remains the sole healthcare provider for the local community.

Support for Humanity

Highlighting the selflessness of the Immaculate Heart Sisters, Obi commended the facility’s proprietor, management, and staff for their dedication to improving healthcare delivery in rural areas. He noted that their tireless work continues to uplift communities and provide essential services to the underserved.

“I sincerely thank the management and staff of this facility whose dedication has enabled it to grow and deliver quality healthcare to poor communities. Through these critical investments, we strengthen the foundation of our society, building a healthier and more productive nation,” he added.

Commitment to National Development

Obi reiterated his pledge to replicate similar support for key institutions across Nigeria, emphasizing that targeted investments in health and education are crucial for long-term national development. His visit forms part of a broader nationwide effort to support vital sectors critical to societal growth.

The donation underscores Obi’s vision of a compassionate and development-driven approach to governance, reinforcing his focus on addressing the pressing needs of rural and underserved communities.
