The Nigeria Police Force has announced major breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes and safeguard national security through a series of coordinated operations across the country.
In Abuja, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, in a joint tactical operation, successfully dismantled a notorious armed robbery and carjacking syndicate operating across the city. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives intercepted the gang as they prepared to strike in the Maitama area.
A gunfight ensued after the suspects opened fire on sighting the police. One of the gang’s most wanted members, Abdulmininu Bello, also known as Babanle, was neutralized during the encounter. Seven other suspects—Ibrahim Muhammad (22, ex-convict), Abubakar Abdullahi (22), Sarajo Yusuf (20), Sanusi Ali (51), Abubakar Sani, Isiaka Adamu (ex-convict), and Abdullahi Isah—were apprehended.
Recovered items from the scene include four AK-47 rifles, two locally made pistols with ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, eleven rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a locally made shotgun, a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, and a red Boxer motorcycle.
Meanwhile, in Jigawa State, police operatives rescued an 80-year-old woman, Hajiya Hajara, who had been kidnapped from her home in Sarbi Village, Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State. The rescue operation followed intelligence reports that the gang intended to move their victim through Jigawa State.
In a swift response, combined police teams and local security outfits stormed criminal hideouts between Danzomo and Medi villages. A fierce exchange of gunfire resulted in the neutralization of five kidnappers and the arrest of five others, including the gang’s kingpin, Yahaya (35). The victim was rescued unharmed and has since been discharged from the hospital following medical evaluation.
Items recovered from the operation include two AK-47 rifles, a locally fabricated LAR rifle, fourteen live rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the operatives for their gallantry and professionalism. He also appreciated the public for its continued cooperation, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring public safety and national security,” the IGP stated.
