Cristiano Ronaldo has committed to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr through 2026, the club confirmed Thursday, ending speculation over the football icon’s next move.
The 40-year-old Portuguese star appeared in a teaser video just before the official announcement, declaring, “Al Nassr forever.”
Ronaldo’s arrival in early 2023 sparked a wave of veteran footballers joining the Saudi Pro League, heavily backed by the nation’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Despite leading the league with 25 goals last season, Ronaldo has yet to lift a domestic or continental trophy with Al Nassr.
Insiders credit Ronaldo’s presence with boosting the profile of Saudi football globally. “He opens the door for elite and young players to come to Saudi Arabia,” a PIF official told AFP.
Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in football ahead of hosting the 2034 World Cup, with PIF controlling clubs like Al Nassr, Al Hilal, and Al Ahli. While Ronaldo previously hinted at retirement with the Riyadh-based club, the new deal signals he’s not done yet.
