Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday assured Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, of his unwavering support, stating that Okpebholo will not walk alone when he assumes office.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made this pledge while receiving Okpebholo at Lagos House, Marina, during a ‘Thank You Visit’ following the senator’s victory in the recent Edo governorship election.
Sanwo-Olu expressed Lagos State’s readiness to assist Edo with developmental strategies, offering templates and insights that could aid Okpebholo’s administration. “We are excited that you’ve come to Lagos for blessings and to acknowledge the modest support we gave. On behalf of Lagos State, I congratulate you. Your victory is for all Edo people, and I urge everyone to join hands with you to develop the state,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He emphasized that Lagos would make available its agencies and successful policies to help Edo thrive, pledging, “Lagos will stand with you, supporting you with whatever you require to excel as governor.” Sanwo-Olu also called on Edo citizens, including Okpebholo’s former rivals, to rally behind the governor-elect to ensure the state’s growth.
In response, Senator Okpebholo, accompanied by his deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, and other dignitaries, thanked Sanwo-Olu for his support during the campaign. He sought continued assistance from the Lagos governor, drawing from his experience to guide Edo’s transformation. Okpebholo extended a hand of fellowship to his opponents, inviting them to contribute their ideas for the state’s development. “We are going to transform Edo into an enviable state,” he promised, adding that his administration would build on the work of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki.
