Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, held a meeting on Wednesday with the new United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, to discuss enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.
Tajudeen, who welcomed Mills and officials from the US Embassy, emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation between Nigeria and the United States. The Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, revealed details of the meeting in an official statement.
“I have no doubt that you are the right man coming at the right moment to strengthen the already strong relationship between America and Nigeria,” Tajudeen said, expressing his confidence in Mills’ ability to foster better relations. “You can count on us for every support that you need to succeed.”
The Speaker expressed his gratitude for the visit, calling it a valuable opportunity to discuss shared interests between the two countries. He also stressed the need for “deeper ties, deeper cooperation, and a more mutually beneficial relationship” moving forward.
Ambassador Mills, in his remarks, noted that the purpose of the visit was to engage with the Speaker on his priorities and those of the House of Representatives. Mills also highlighted Nigeria’s status as Africa’s largest democracy and underscored its significance to the United States.
The meeting signals a commitment from both sides to strengthen diplomatic relations and explore opportunities for collaboration between Nigeria and the US.
