Tinubu Mourns Tragic Niger Fuel Tanker Explosion, Over 80 Dead

President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed the lives of over 80 people and left many injured at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people and government of Niger State.

A Preventable Tragedy

The devastating incident occurred on Saturday, with many of the victims reportedly attempting to scoop Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the overturned tanker before it exploded. The President lamented the preventable nature of the tragedy and called for greater caution among citizens in such situations.

Emergency Response and Preventive Action

President Tinubu has directed the immediate provision of comprehensive medical care for those injured in the explosion. He also instructed security and road safety authorities to implement enhanced measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Additionally, Tinubu emphasized the critical need for public awareness about the dangers of approaching accident sites involving fuel-laden vehicles. He urged all citizens to prioritize safety and avoid such high-risk behaviors.

Nationwide Awareness Campaign

To address the underlying issues, the President has mandated the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to launch a nationwide educational campaign. The initiative will focus on raising awareness about the severe risks associated with scooping fuel from overturned tankers and the environmental hazards it poses.
