Lagos, Nigeria: Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the quality of petroleum products sold at filling stations across Nigeria. This call was made on Saturday during a meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and his deputy, Benjamin Kalu.
Dangote urged the House to establish a committee dedicated to testing products at various filling stations nationwide. Highlighting the damage caused to vehicles and engines by substandard products, he also called for an investigation into the quality of laboratories used for testing imported products, suggesting a comparison with the facilities at the Dangote Refinery.
Addressing the lawmakers, who had earlier toured the refinery, Dangote expressed openness to independent testing of his refinery’s products. He emphasized that such testing would validate the quality of his products and expose the issues with some of the products sold by other players in the sector.
In recent months, the management of Dangote Refinery has raised concerns about attempts by international oil companies (IOCs) to sabotage the refinery and the importation of substandard products. Despite these claims, the refinery has faced accusations of attempting to create a monopoly in the market.
Dangote dismissed the monopoly allegations, insisting that the Dangote Group did not receive any special incentives during the construction of the refinery. He also asserted that there were no efforts to prevent other players from operating in the sector.
“We are committed to ensuring the highest standards in our products and welcome any independent testing to prove this,” Dangote stated. “Our focus is on providing quality products and addressing the issues caused by substandard imports.”
