Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised the effectiveness of the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and their 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) during the commissioning of a new housing project in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA on Tuesday. Sanwo-Olu emphasized his commitment to supporting council chairmen to foster more development.
The governor inaugurated the Raymond Estate and Sterling Heights projects, executed through a Joint Venture Partnership with a private developer. Raymond Estate features 32 three-bedroom apartments, 16 four-bedroom apartments, and 16 two-bedroom apartments, while Sterling Heights includes 64 flats, 32 terraces, and 10 semi-detached apartments.
Sanwo-Olu lauded the Agboyi-Ketu LCDA for transforming Ajelogo, a once notorious slum, into a revitalized area. He praised LCDA Chairman Dele Oshinowo for his transparency and effective governance, citing the projects as evidence of the successful autonomy of Lagos LGAs.
“This is a testament to the effectiveness of our local government system,” Sanwo-Olu said. “The council has turned a previously troubled area into a valuable asset, and we are committed to supporting our councils in their development efforts.”
Senator Tokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East, commended the projects as a significant advancement in local governance, enhancing quality of life and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
Dele Oshinowo highlighted the alignment of these projects with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and announced a new digital property registry for the LCDA’s real estate assets. He also noted the initiation of the second phase of the Greenwich Gardens project and the completion of the Technical Review Phase for Lagos Homes in Ajelogo, emphasizing the employment opportunities created by these initiatives.
