The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Christian couples not to allow their spiritual responsibilities to overshadow the need for romance in their marriages. Speaking on the importance of maintaining intimacy, Adeboye emphasized that anointing should not diminish the romance between spouses.
In a post shared on his X handle, Adeboye revealed that he and his wife, Foluke, still nurture their love with affectionate pet names, underscoring that “anointing does not reduce romance.”
“The fact that you are a Christian does not in any way take romance out of your marriage. Marriage is the only institution where romance and intimacy is allowed between a man and a woman,” the revered pastor said.
He further advised against neglecting romantic activities in marriage, particularly for those in ministry. “Some pastors hardly go on dates with their spouses because they consider such activities a distraction from their spiritual focus. Some don’t even play with their spouses anymore,” he noted.
Quoting scripture, Adeboye cited Genesis 26:8, which describes Isaac being romantic with his wife Rebekah, as an example of how spirituality and romance can coexist. He encouraged couples to create fun, memorable moments together, reminding them that their spouse is the same person they fell in love with before marriage and children.
“Don’t become too rigid in your marriage. Don’t have more fun elsewhere without your spouse. Make the times you spend together so enjoyable that you always look forward to seeing each other again,” he said.
The pastor also offered practical tips for keeping the spark alive, such as composing poems, leaving surprise notes, and using special pet names for each other in private. “Up until today, there is a pet name my wife calls me when we are alone. I equally have a pet name that I call her, and every time I do, she cannot but smile at me lovingly. When we are alone, we are lovers, not Daddy G.O. and Mummy G.O.,” he shared.
Concluding his message, Pastor Adeboye encouraged couples to be deliberate about maintaining the love and excitement they had at the start of their marriage, stating, “Your marriage can be like heaven on earth if you keep the romance alive.”
