Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has set October 31 as the date for delivering a ruling and judgment in the case seeking the removal of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Chairman, Chiedu Ebie, over allegations of wrongful appointment.
The decision follows the conclusion of arguments from both sides, with parties adopting their written addresses at Tuesday’s proceedings.
The lawsuit, initiated by Niger Delta communities from Bayelsa and Delta states, accuses President Bola Tinubu of violating the NDDC Act by appointing Ebie, whom they claim is ineligible for the position as he does not hail from an oil-producing community.
The plaintiffs’ counsel urged the court to dismiss the preliminary objection filed by President Tinubu and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and to rule in favor of their case against the respondents.
After hearing the submissions, Justice Abdulmalik announced that her ruling on the preliminary objection and the final judgment in the main suit would be delivered on October 31.
