Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has issued a public summons for the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to appear in court on October 24. Bello is expected to answer to a fresh 16-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The summons follows a ruling by Justice Anenih, granting an EFCC application for a public notice after the anti-graft agency claimed it was unable to serve Bello with the charges filed on September 24. The case involves allegations of criminal breach of trust amounting to ₦110.4 billion.
In her ruling, Justice Anenih directed the EFCC to publish the summons in a widely circulated newspaper and to paste copies at Bello’s last known address as well as in conspicuous places within the court premises.
Alongside Bello, two other defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, are also set to face charges related to the alleged financial misconduct.
Bello’s arraignment on October 24 will mark the beginning of legal proceedings as the former governor confronts these serious allegations.
