The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed the Group D second-leg fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights from its official schedule.
The match, originally set to take place in Libya at 8 p.m. after the first leg in Uyo, where the Super Eagles secured a 1-0 victory, has been surrounded by controversy following Nigeria’s team ordeal at a Libyan airport.
Super Eagles players and officials reported being stranded for over 14 hours at the airport, prompting their return to Nigeria. In response, CAF announced that it is investigating the situation after the Libyan Football Federation alleged sabotage and threatened legal action against Nigeria.
CAF updated its match schedule on its X handle for upcoming fixtures, notably excluding the Libya vs Nigeria game, signaling potential postponement or cancellation.
