Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered another collapse on Tuesday, plunging millions of people into darkness. The latest incident occurred less than 24 hours after power distribution companies reported a previous grid collapse at around 6:48 p.m. on Monday, disrupting electricity supply nationwide.
In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), which supplies parts of Lagos, confirmed the incident. “Dear valued customer, kindly be informed that there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network,” the company said.
EKEDC assured customers that efforts were underway to restore power. “We are currently working with our partners as we hope for a speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power is restored. Kindly bear with us,” the statement added.
The frequent grid collapses continue to exacerbate the country’s power supply challenges, leaving many Nigerians without reliable electricity.
