President Bola Tinubu has nominated lawyer Saseyi Ibiyemi to serve as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State, pending Senate confirmation. Ibiyemi is set to fill the role left by ‘Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away in August while serving as REC in Ogun State, according to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Monday.
Ibiyemi, 58, an Ilaje native from Ondo State, currently holds the position of Administrative Secretary at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State. A 1987 graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University and a 1988 call to the bar, she also holds a Master’s in Election Management from Bingham University, Nasarawa.
In addition, President Tinubu has nominated Abdulrazak Tukur as a National Commissioner for INEC representing the North West region. Tukur, 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University. He joined INEC in 1999 and served as Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics until December 2023.
Both nominees await Senate clearance.
