The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed claims that it sells adulterated petrol, emphasizing its commitment to high-quality fuel standards.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Olufemi Soneye, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, reassured the public that the company adheres to stringent quality control measures to ensure only safe and reliable petroleum products are sold at its stations nationwide.
“NNPC Retail Ltd does not deal in adulterated products. We maintain rigorous standards at every stage of our operations to guarantee that our products meet the highest quality,” the statement said.
Soneye also addressed a viral video that showed a customer claiming to have purchased fuel from an NNPC Retail outlet at Keffi Flyover in Nasarawa State. The video, which purportedly shows the customer pouring a dark liquid from a bottle, sparked concerns about the quality of NNPCL’s fuel.
Refuting the claims, Soneye clarified that NNPC Retail does not dispense fuel into bottles or jerrycans, as shown in the video. “We have carried out spot checks at all our outlets and found this claim to be false,” he stated. “The product in the video was not, and could not have been, purchased from any NNPC Retail outlet.”
The statement urged the public to disregard the video, describing it as a baseless claim from “selfish and unpatriotic elements” aiming to spread misinformation. NNPCL further reassured consumers that it consistently monitors pump integrity across its stations through regular inspections and calibrations to ensure product consistency.
The company called on the public to remain cautious of misleading narratives and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of fuel quality.
