Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has declared that the end of banditry in Nigeria is imminent, attributing his optimism to recent military successes in the Northwest. He urged troops to strengthen collaboration with ground forces and other stakeholders to decisively defeat the nation’s enemies.
Abubakar spoke on Monday while commissioning two newly inducted ATAK-129 helicopters under Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 2 at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base in Katsina. Accompanied by Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, the Minister emphasized the strategic importance of the new helicopters in neutralizing threats and restoring peace to the region.
“These advanced platforms have an edge over other fighter jets, ensuring that no enemy can evade justice,” Abubakar stated, noting that the helicopters will enhance operations against bandits and other criminal elements undermining stability in the Northwest.
He commended the troops for their courage, dedication, and sacrifices, acknowledging the positive impact of their efforts. According to the Minister, recent military operations have dislodged several bandit hideouts, enabling farmers to return to their fields, children to resume schooling, and businesses to flourish.
“We salute your personal sacrifices, leaving behind your families and the comfort of your homes to secure the future of our nation. The Federal Government remains committed to providing you and your families with the necessary resources, incentives, and benefits,” he said.
Abubakar expressed confidence in the capacity of the deployed air components, highlighting their speed, reach, and precision. “Together, we will dominate the battle space and achieve successful results. No enemy can hide from justice, and the long arm of the law will reach those who threaten our peace,” he added.
He urged troops to maintain synergy with ground forces and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of cooperation to maximize the effectiveness of ongoing operations.
Reflecting on recent gains, the Minister noted the destruction of several bandit enclaves in the past week, calling it a testament to the effectiveness of the military’s current strategy. He assured the troops of the Federal Government’s continued support to ensure the safety and well-being of personnel and their families.
“If this momentum continues, we will soon see the end of banditry in Nigeria,” he concluded.
