Coalition Backs Seyi Tinubu for Lagos Governorship in 2027

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) has voiced its confidence in Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a potential unifying candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

Speaking at a press conference in Owerri, CONYL President General Goodluck Ibem described Seyi Tinubu as a leader with the qualities to garner bipartisan support, including from the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Ibem dismissed criticisms surrounding Seyi Tinubu’s alleged governorship ambitions, characterizing them as baseless. He argued that Lagosians have consistently supported President Tinubu and his legacy, emphasizing that the president’s track record of transformational governance has prepared his son for leadership.

Responding to remarks by the Lagos State PDP, which labeled the alleged governorship bid as a “family affair,” Ibem expressed confidence that Seyi Tinubu would earn widespread support if he declares his candidacy.

“We want to remind the PDP that the people of Lagos State love and appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They demonstrated this by voting for him and his party, the Alliance for Democracy (AD), in 1999,” Ibem stated.

He further noted that Lagosians have historically rejected the PDP at the polls, even during the party’s control of the federal government, underscoring their preference for democratic ideals and transformational leadership.

“True leadership is sustained through performance. Tinubu’s governance in Lagos proved that he came to serve the people, not to be served,” Ibem added.

As speculation about the 2027 Lagos governorship race continues, the CONYL’s endorsement of Seyi Tinubu adds a new dimension to the evolving political landscape in the state.
