Ogun Governor Presents N1.05 Trillion 2025 Budget to State Assembly

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has presented the 2025 Appropriation Bill of N1.05 trillion to the State House of Assembly. The budget, titled “Budget of Hope and Prosperity,” allocates N453.56 billion for recurrent expenditure and N600.98 billion for capital projects.

The presentation, presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, also coincided with the commissioning of the newly redesigned State Assembly Complex, a 45-year-old facility revamped under the current administration.

Sectoral Allocations
Governor Abiodun detailed the budget’s focus, highlighting key allocations:

Education: N177.84 billion (17%)
Health: N134.54 billion (13%)
Infrastructure: N284.4 billion (27%)
Housing & Community Development: N66.38 billion (6%)
Agriculture/Industry: N65.38 billion (6%)
Recreation, Culture & Religion: N25.27 billion (2%)
Other sectors include:

Social Protection: N39.83 billion (4%)
Public Order & Safety: N26.44 billion (3%)
Judiciary: N10.54 billion (1%)
Statewide Initiatives: N104.6 billion (10%)
Objectives of the 2025 Budget
Governor Abiodun explained that the budget aligns with the State Economic Development Plan (2021–2025) and aims to address critical challenges such as unemployment, poverty, and infrastructure deficits while driving sustainable growth. Key priorities include:

Infrastructure development
Healthcare and education
Youth empowerment and job creation
Security enhancement
Agriculture and food security
“The 2025 Appropriation Bill reflects current challenges, essential reforms, and the need for inclusive, diversified, and sustainable growth. It serves as a roadmap for economic and social progress, fostering unity and public trust in government,” Governor Abiodun stated.

2024 Budget Performance
Abiodun reported that Ogun State had achieved 79% of its pro-rated revenue target and 56% of its expenditure target for 2024, showcasing fiscal reliability and laying the foundation for future financial sustainability.

Legislative Support and Remarks
Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide commended Governor Abiodun for the renovation of the Assembly Complex and other infrastructural projects, including the Agro Cargo International Airport and the Remo Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone.

Elemide highlighted the Assembly’s legislative achievements over the past 18 months, including the passage of nine bills and 32 motions, and oversight of over 40 issues affecting Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). He advocated for:

Financial autonomy for the State Legislature
A Special Court to enforce the Anti-Land Grabbing Law, given the high volume of land disputes
The Speaker assured that the Assembly would ensure the timely passage of the 2025 budget and monitor its implementation to maximize public benefit.

Dignitaries Present
The event was attended by key figures, including Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Secretary to the State Government Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, former Deputy Governors Senator Shefiu Kaka and Yetunde Onanuga, Paramount Rulers from various regions, and members of the State Executive Council.

The 2025 budget presentation marked another milestone in the State’s efforts to foster socio-economic development and improve the well-being of its residents.
