Following a surge in motorcycle snatching incidents within the Birnin Kebbi metropolis, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, has issued a cautionary alert to commercial motorcyclists. He urged riders to exercise vigilance, particularly at night, when criminals may pose as overly friendly passengers offering free food or gifts, potentially laced with drugs to incapacitate the motorcyclist and facilitate the theft of their motorcycles.
CP Sani advised commercial motorcyclists to register their motorcycles with the police, emphasizing that proper documentation would aid in the swift investigation and recovery of stolen motorcycles, while also helping to curb the rising trend of motorcycle theft in the state.
Harmattan Safety Advisory
As the harmattan season begins, the Commissioner also appealed to the public to take precautions against fire outbreaks, given the dry and windy conditions. He highlighted the risks associated with highly flammable substances and activities, including bush burning, urging residents to desist from such practices to prevent avoidable disasters.
Additionally, CP Sani advised households to switch off electrical appliances when not in use to minimize fire hazards during this period.
Public Cooperation Essential
The Police Commissioner called on the good people of Kebbi State to adhere to these safety measures, emphasizing that prevention is better than cure. He expressed optimism that the residents of Kebbi State would cooperate with the police to maintain safety and security throughout the season.
The Kebbi State Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property, urging citizens to report suspicious activities promptly.
