Nigeria’s indigenous telecommunications provider, Globacom, has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing customer experience by expanding and upgrading its network infrastructure nationwide.
In a statement, the company disclosed that it has been rolling out new sites and upgrading existing ones as part of an ongoing network improvement initiative that commenced last year. The project aims to provide Nigerians with faster internet speeds and improved data services, addressing the demands of a growing population.
Amid recent increases in telecom rates, Globacom emphasized its dedication to offering affordable voice and data services while maintaining a top-tier telecommunications infrastructure. The network upgrade covers all aspects of telecom infrastructure, including enhancements to passive equipment such as power and environmental systems, as well as improvements to the core network, access network, transmission, IP network, fiber backbone, and metro access.
The company has already deployed hundreds of new sites in key locations, including Abuja, Rivers, Edo, Ogun, Delta, Cross River, Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, Nasarawa, and several others. The expansion is designed to boost network capacity, reduce congestion, and enhance both voice and data quality for subscribers.
Additionally, Globacom has incorporated hundreds of LTE 2600 sites in major commercial hubs such as Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, and Kwara. Several tertiary institutions in Rivers, Edo, Abuja, Enugu, and Anambra have also benefited from this upgrade, ensuring seamless high-speed data access and minimizing network congestion.
The company’s latest efforts align with the Federal Government of Nigeria’s broadband penetration initiative under the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy. As part of this drive, Globacom has enhanced the capacity of its data network and upgraded over 1,700 sites across Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Benue, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and Plateau states.
To further boost network coverage and capacity, the telecom giant is deploying hundreds of additional 2G, 3G, and 4G base stations across the country. These investments are expected to significantly improve service delivery, network quality, and overall customer satisfaction.
Globacom has also increased the capacity of its Glo1 submarine cable to ensure seamless ultra-high-speed connectivity, supporting its technological advancements and enhancing the calling and browsing experience for its customers.
In addition, the company has embarked on a nationwide initiative to replace thousands of kilometers of fiber routes and lay new ones, alongside installing thousands of new generators to strengthen power supply and network redundancy. These measures are aimed at ensuring better network availability and reliability for subscribers across Nigeria.
