The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister.
While extending Easter greetings to Christians nationwide, the Minister urged Nigerians to reflect on the virtues of sacrifice and love exemplified by Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection are at the heart of the Easter celebration.
He also encouraged citizens to use the Easter season as a time for prayers, promoting peace, unity, and stability across the country.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assuring citizens of continued efforts to foster national development and inclusive growth.
“Nigerians are encouraged to extend goodwill and compassion to one another through acts of kindness and generosity,” the statement added.
Easter remains one of the most sacred Christian observances, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after His crucifixion. For many Christian denominations, it marks the culmination of the Lenten period of fasting, prayer, and repentance, and serves as a time of spiritual renewal and joy.
