The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced the expansion of its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) network with the launch of new stations in Abuja, Ibadan, and Abeokuta, as part of its broader clean energy initiative.
In a statement on Monday via its official X platform, the company said: “We are expanding clean energy access, one city at a time. We are now live in Abeokuta, Abuja, and Ibadan. With every new site, we bring Nigerians closer to cleaner, more affordable energy for everyday mobility.”
The newly launched stations add to an existing network in Lagos and other parts of Abuja, designed to promote CNG as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to petrol.
Previous installations include locations such as Lateef Jakande (Agidingbi), Agege Motor Road (Mushin), Sangotedo on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, and Mobile Road in Apapa. NNPCL has also rolled out six mobile CNG refueling stations in key areas like Fola Agoro (Shomolu), Alapere SS, Marina, Idimangoro (Agege Bypass), Lakowe SS, and Odogunyan SS (Ikorodu).
Collectively, the CNG stations in Lagos and Abuja have the capacity to dispense over six million standard cubic feet of gas per day, serving an estimated 15,000 vehicles daily.
NNPCL’s CNG initiative is part of the Federal Government’s broader energy transition plan aimed at reducing carbon emissions, cutting transportation costs, and improving national energy security.
