The atmosphere at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Akure, was filled with relief and gratitude as the Glo Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Globacom, paid the delivery costs of 35 women and distributed essential baby items, including diapers and relief materials.
The initiative, warmly received by the beneficiaries, forms part of Globacom’s broader efforts to ease the financial and emotional burdens of motherhood, particularly in the face of prevailing economic challenges.
Speaking at the presentation, Akeem Yussuf, Globacom’s Retail Chief (West), who represented the company, highlighted the telecoms giant’s commitment to supporting communities.
“We recognize the vital role mothers play in nurturing the future of our nation, and we believe that supporting you is, in fact, supporting generations to come,” Yussuf stated.
He explained that the outreach, which began as a staff-led initiative, has grown into a company-funded program to demonstrate care and solidarity with mothers. “Motherhood comes with its own challenges, which can be overwhelming in difficult times. This is why we are here — to extend a hand,” he added.
Yussuf stressed that Globacom measures success not only in financial terms but also through the positive impact it creates in people’s lives, reaffirming the company’s commitment to similar outreach programs across Nigeria.
Officials of the hospital commended Globacom’s intervention and reiterated their dedication to quality healthcare delivery.
For the beneficiaries, the gesture brought immense relief. Mrs. Ehinnowo Deborah, who underwent a cesarean section, described the support as a blessing. “I was so happy. This is truly a relief,” she said.
Another mother, Mrs. Adenuga Ronke, expressed gratitude for both the financial support and the baby supplies. “Receiving diapers has been very helpful. My baby, Elijah, now has what he needs, and I’m grateful,” she said.
Mr. Isiaka Segun, husband of a beneficiary, echoed similar appreciation. “It is more than financial assistance. We even attended a seminar and received diapers in addition to the delivery costs being covered,” he noted.
Mrs. Abdulrafiu Odunayo, another new mother, added, “I was so happy about the payment made to cover my delivery. The diapers have also been so useful for my baby.”
Radiating joy, the mothers left the hospital with their newborns and renewed optimism, reassured that organizations like Globacom remain steadfast partners in their journey of nurturing the next generation.
