All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Joe Igbokwe has criticised activist and politician Omoyele Sowore for describing President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal,” insisting the remark was disrespectful and unacceptable.
In a lengthy post on X, Igbokwe said he was shocked by Sowore’s statement and urged him to retract it and issue an open apology to the president and Nigerians.
“I was stunned into disbelief when he called a sitting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria a criminal. I advised him to withdraw the shameful scurrilous drivels and apologize to the President. Up till now, he has not found the need to apologize to the President and Nigerians who elected him,” Igbokwe wrote.
He argued that Tinubu’s career and achievements far outweighed Sowore’s, describing the president as “an international scholar, chartered accountant, former senator, two-term governor of Lagos, and now president of Nigeria.”
By contrast, Igbokwe dismissed Sowore’s record as limited to student activism and protests, accusing him of spending his life “moving from police stations to detention camps” without significant contributions to national development.
He further warned that branding the president a criminal was tantamount to insulting the millions of Nigerians who voted for him, calling it “a dangerous game” and “a joke taken to a frightening dimension.”
Reiterating his stance, Igbokwe said: “When you call a president we all elected a criminal, it is at once telling us that 200 million are criminals. This is unacceptable. I urge my friend Sowore to rethink, retract his words, and tender an apology to the president and Nigerians
