The Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, and Chairman of Rite Foods Limited, Dr. Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, OFR, has reaffirmed that investment in quality education remains a cornerstone for sustainable socio-economic development.
Speaking at the combined 5th and 6th convocation ceremony held at the Alhaja Adiat Abegbe Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Adegunwa said the unwavering commitment and financial support of stakeholders have continued to strengthen the university’s foundation and growth. He urged well-meaning individuals and organisations to further support the institution’s development drive.
“This event marks a key milestone for our university. It honours our graduates and celebrates our shared success,” he said. “An investment in knowledge pays the best dividend. Our journey with Summit University stands as one of the most rewarding investments—one that benefits both today and posterity.”
The Chancellor noted that the university had recorded notable progress since he assumed office as its pioneer Chancellor in December 2023. Undergraduate programmes, he said, had increased from eight to 16, while six academic programmes recently secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission.
He praised the University Management, Governing Council, and Board of Trustees for their strategic leadership, describing the institution’s growth as a testament to their hard work and planning.
Adegunwa also highlighted major infrastructural developments since the last convocation, including the foundation of four major buildings, one of which has been completed, with two nearing completion. He expressed gratitude to donors such as Mosun Belo-Olusoga for their continued support.
He further disclosed that preparations were underway for the resource verification of new academic programmes in the College of Law and the College of Health Sciences, expressing optimism that both colleges would become operational by the next convocation. He added that the university had recently received approval to operate a Campus FM Radio Station, which he said would boost community engagement and enhance the institution’s role in promoting knowledge and countering misinformation.
During the event, the university conferred honorary doctorate degrees on Aderemi Muyideen Makanjuola and Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila, and awarded a posthumous honorary doctorate in Business Administration to the late Tiamiyu Adebisi Olatinwo.
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu thanked the Chancellor for donating the ongoing Senate Building project, now at 30 percent completion, noting that the structure would significantly enhance the university’s infrastructure upon completion.
Aibinu announced that 319 students graduated across various classes of honours, including 26 first-class graduates. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening innovation, research, and development.
