The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has reassured residents of a clean, safe, and healthy environment during the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations.
In a statement, LAWMA Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the authority has activated a comprehensive waste management plan to handle the expected surge in waste across residential, commercial, and public areas.
To ensure uninterrupted service, LAWMA has deployed waste evacuation trucks, personnel, and supervisory teams to strategic locations, including major highways, markets, motor parks, and other high-traffic areas. The authority has also strengthened collaboration with Private Sector Participants (PSPs), Community Development Associations (CDAs), and market leaders to encourage proper waste disposal and compliance with collection schedules.
Dr. Gbadegesin emphasized that all PSP operators are mandated to maintain effective service delivery before, during, and after the festivities, warning that monitoring and enforcement have been intensified statewide to prevent lapses.
He urged residents to support LAWMA’s efforts by properly bagging waste, avoiding indiscriminate dumping, using designated collection points, and adopting waste reduction practices such as reusable bags and containers. Motorists were also advised to exercise caution around waste evacuation points to ensure the safety of sanitation workers.
“Our goal is to ensure that Lagos remains clean, orderly, and liveable throughout the festive period and beyond. LAWMA is fully prepared, and with the cooperation of residents, we can all enjoy a safe and pleasant Christmas and New Year,” Gbadegesin said.
In a related event, LAWMA held its annual Christmas Carol and End-of-Year Thanksgiving service at its Ijora-Olopa headquarters to give thanks for the year’s blessings. The service featured Bible readings led by Dr. Gbadegesin and other management members, a sermon on the theme “The Name of Jesus” by Pastor Adebayo Adeniyi Psalms of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, prayers for LAWMA and Lagos State, and musical performances by guest minister Sarah Apekeola and the Emmanuel Chapel Choir, including a children’s choreographic presentation.
