Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, alongside three other key legislations, marking a significant step in Anambra State’s fiscal planning and governance. The signing ceremony took place at the Light House in Awka.
The 2026 Appropriation Law sets the state’s budget at ₦766 billion, slightly higher than the ₦757 billion initially proposed by the administration, following extensive deliberations by the Eighth Assembly. The budget prioritizes economic growth, accelerated infrastructure development, and enhanced social welfare programmes across the state.
Governor Soludo, through his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, described the budget as “more than numbers — it is a strategic plan crafted to deliver on our administration’s promises, ensuring resources are allocated to meet critical community needs.”
In addition to the appropriation law, the governor signed three other important bills into law:
Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025
Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025
Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025
Governor Soludo praised the State House of Assembly for its cooperation, noting that their thorough legislative process helped refine and enhance the budget. “Our productive partnership with the House has been crucial in delivering laws that will accelerate Anambra’s development and prosperity,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, emphasizing that the newly enacted laws create an enabling environment for effective service delivery and sustainable growth.
The signing ceremony was attended by key officials including Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze; Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme; Hon. Ejike Okechukwu; Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi; Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof. (Mrs.) Sylva Chika Ifemeje; and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake.
