Dangote Cement Plc’s Ibese Plant in Ogun State has launched a Safety FairPlay Initiative aimed at fostering behavioural change and a cultural shift toward safer work practices among employees. The pilot programme, set to be rolled out across all Dangote Cement plants, marks a major milestone in reinforcing the company’s safety culture.
The launch saw strong participation from both management and staff, highlighting a shared commitment to promoting safe conduct. The initiative is built on three core pillars—Recognition, Correction (Coaching), and Discipline—to encourage positive safety behaviours, consistently address at-risk actions, and promote transparent reporting of incidents, near-misses, and errors.
Speaking at the event, Dangote Cement Technical Director, Mr. Anandam Duraisamy, described the initiative as a strategic step toward embedding safety as a core workplace mindset. “Safety FairPlay is about building trust, consistency, and accountability in how we manage safety. When safe behaviour is recognised and risky actions are fairly addressed, safety becomes a shared responsibility,” he said. Duraisamy added that the programme aims to transform not only employees’ actions but also their approach and thinking around safety, making it an integral part of everyday operations.
Mr. Elvis Akalusi, Head of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) at Ibese Plant, praised management for championing the initiative and employees for their enthusiastic participation. He noted that Safety FairPlay would be fully integrated into daily operations, offering coaching, recognition, and accountability tools to help staff make safer decisions. “Its success depends on our shared commitment—our courage to consistently do the right thing, even when no one is watching,” Akalusi said.
By introducing Safety FairPlay, Dangote Cement’s Ibese Plant reinforces its reputation as a safety-driven operation, dedicated to protecting its workforce, assets, and ensuring long-term sustainability. The programme reflects the company’s belief that true safety excellence starts with people—their attitudes, choices, and willingness to look out for one another.
