The Lagos State Government has commenced an investigation into an incident that occurred on Saturday near the finishing line of the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
The incident involved an ambulance deployed as part of the official medical emergency response for the event. The vehicle reportedly came in contact with a female non-athlete within the event arena while conveying athletes who had earlier required medical attention.
Event officials immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop after noticing the situation. The emergency medical team promptly assessed the affected individual at the scene and evacuated her for further care.
According to authorities, the woman sustained bruises and complained of chest pains. She was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs confirmed to be stable, before being transferred to a public health facility for further evaluation. Officials said she is currently receiving medical treatment and responding positively.
The Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are monitoring the situation, with senior government officials visiting the hospital as part of ongoing oversight efforts.
