Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has confirmed the killing of a senior military official, Jamshid Eshaghi, in a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.
In a condolence message, IRGC commander-in-chief Ahmad Vahidi said Eshaghi, who headed budget and financial affairs at Iran’s armed forces general staff, was killed alongside several members of his family. No further details, including the date of the strike, were disclosed.
The armed forces general staff is a key coordinating body between Iran’s regular military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Vahidi described Eshaghi as instrumental in strengthening the country’s defence capabilities, according to remarks published by state-run Islamic Republic News Agency.
Eshaghi had been sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury in February 2025 over his alleged role in facilitating an international network that shipped Iranian crude oil to China. U.S. authorities said proceeds from the sales were used to fund Tehran-backed groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Yemen’s Houthi movement.
The Treasury also accused Iran’s general staff of using front companies and intermediaries to conceal the origin of oil shipments. Eshaghi was previously linked to Sepehr Energy, one of the entities allegedly involved in the network.
His death marks the latest in a series of high-profile losses acknowledged by Tehran since the escalation of hostilities with Israel and the United States.
