US Mission Urges Nigerians to Comply with Visa Rules

By Ayomide Otitoju

The United States Mission in Nigeria has cautioned Nigerian travellers against visa overstays, warning that such violations could negatively impact future applicants.

In a statement shared on Monday via its official X account, the mission stressed the importance of complying with U.S. immigration regulations, noting that non-compliance by some travellers could affect opportunities for others.

“Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens,” the statement said, adding that adherence to rules helps preserve access for students, business travellers, and families.

The mission also raised concerns over visa fraud and misuse of travel documents, urging applicants to respect the terms of their visas throughout their stay in the United States.

It encouraged members of the public to report credible information on visa fraud through designated consular channels.

Reaffirming its commitment to facilitating legitimate travel, the mission said it remains focused on promoting safe, legal, and orderly movement between Nigeria and the United States.
