The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent reduction in fares on all Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) passenger train services ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Funsho Adebiyi, who said the initiative is aimed at easing transportation costs for Nigerians during the festive period.
According to the statement, the fare discount takes effect from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, to Monday, June 1, 2026, across all NRC routes nationwide.
It added that passengers who had already purchased tickets before the announcement will benefit from a 50 per cent rebate, which can be used for future train travel within the validity period.
The ministry clarified that train schedules and timetables will remain unchanged throughout the period, while also wishing Nigerians a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
In a related development, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kwara State said it has deployed 950 personnel, including officers, marshals, and first responders, to ensure safer road travel during the festivities.
