Man United End Pre-Season With 4-2 Defeat to AC Milan

Manchester United ended their pre-season campaign with a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in Wroclaw, Poland, on Saturday.

The result gave former United manager Ruben Amorim a winning return against his former club, with Milan recovering from an early setback to claim victory.

United took the lead in the second minute when captain Bruno Fernandes delivered a corner that Harry Maguire headed powerfully into the net.

Milan levelled after a defensive error allowed Goncalo Ramos to enter the area and set up Samuel Chukwueze, who calmly finished from close range.

United were awarded a penalty shortly before half-time after Koni De Winter pulled back Youri Tielemans. However, Fernandes missed from the spot, with goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani diving to his right to make the save.

It was Fernandes’ second consecutive penalty miss in pre-season after he failed to convert against Leeds earlier in the week.

United regained the lead after Dorgu capitalised on a loose backpass from Filippo Terracciano, but Milan equalised again when Chukwueze’s off-target effort was turned in at the far post by Alphadjo Cisse.

Rashford, who had been frozen out by Amorim before spending time on loan at Aston Villa and later Barcelona, made his first United appearance since returning from the Spanish club when he came on as a substitute after an hour.

Milan took the lead for the first time in the 68th minute when Ramos headed in Chukwueze’s cross.

Three minutes later, former Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek raced through the United defence to score Milan’s fourth goal and complete the comeback.

The defeat brought United’s pre-season preparations to an end ahead of the new campaign.

Amorim was dismissed as United manager in January after 14 months in charge. Former United and England midfielder Michael Carrick subsequently took over on a permanent basis after initially serving as caretaker and guided the club to a third-place finish.
