The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has warned against energy theft and meter tampering, directing stakeholders to investigate the estimated power losses on the 132kV Ikorodu-Sagamu corridor.
The corridor reportedly records up to 100MW of unaccounted power, resulting in an estimated annual loss of ₦120 billion, according to monitoring data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO).
Tegbe gave the directive on Friday during a meeting with industrial operators along the corridor, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to improving electricity supply under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He called for a transparent and science-based investigation to identify the sources of the losses and strengthen measures to curb energy theft.
The meeting was attended by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and Executive Directors of NISO, representatives of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), as well as the Managing Directors of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric.
