Ibom Air has taken delivery of its third Airbus A220-300 aircraft, further advancing its fleet modernisation and expansion programme.
The aircraft, registered 5N-CDC, was formally handed over to the airline at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada, following the signing of the Transfer of Title documents by Ibom Air Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, George Uriesi.
The latest delivery brings Ibom Air’s fleet to 10 aircraft, comprising seven Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Regional Jets (CRJ900s) and three Airbus A220-300s.
Speaking after the handover ceremony, Uriesi said the new aircraft would improve the airline’s safety, passenger experience, environmental performance and operational efficiency.
He also thanked the Akwa Ibom State Governor and the airline’s shareholder, Pastor Umo Eno, for his continued support and commitment to Ibom Air’s growth.
The Head of the Airbus A220 Programme and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Canada, Guillaume Chevasson, congratulated Ibom Air on the delivery and said Airbus remained committed to supporting the airline’s expansion.
According to him, the A220 offers operational flexibility, fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and strong performance across domestic and regional routes.
The addition of the new aircraft further reduces the average age of Ibom Air’s fleet, strengthening its position among Nigeria’s youngest and most modern airlines.
Ibom Air placed a firm order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft at the Dubai Airshow in 2021. The latest delivery is the second aircraft delivered under that order, following the first factory-new A220 delivered in 2023.
The airline also acquired an additional A220-300 outright in 2024.
