Everton have agreed a deal worth £40 million ($54 million) to sign United States striker Folarin Balogun from Monaco, according to reports on Monday.
The 25-year-old is expected to return to the Premier League if the transfer is completed before Tuesday’s 22:00 GMT deadline, three years after leaving Arsenal for Monaco in a £35 million move.
Everton must now agree personal terms with Balogun and complete his medical before officially confirming the transfer.
Balogun impressed for the United States at the recent World Cup, where he also became the centre of controversy after being suspended for the last-16 clash against Belgium.
The suspension followed his red card against Bosnia in the previous round but was later overturned following an intervention by US President Donald Trump.
Born in New York, Balogun joined Arsenal’s youth academy after moving to London as a child.
He has scored 31 goals in 91 appearances for Monaco and has also featured for the French club in the Champions League.
