Liverpool have completed the signing of 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Belgian club Genk in a deal that could be worth up to £30 million, including add-ons.
Brughmans has signed a six-year contract with Liverpool but will remain at Genk on loan for the 2026-27 season before moving to Anfield ahead of the 2027-28 campaign.
The 6ft 7in Belgian goalkeeper has started all four of Genk’s matches this season and has represented Belgium at youth level.
BBC Sport understands the agreement includes an initial fee and additional payments, with the total potentially reaching around £30 million if all conditions are met.
Liverpool currently have Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Vitezslav Jaros among their goalkeeping options. However, with Alisson’s contract due to expire next summer and uncertainty surrounding Mamardashvili’s future, Brughmans could become an option from the summer of 2027.
The deal reflects the work of Liverpool’s global talent department, led by Matt Newberry, which has focused on identifying promising young players from around the world.
Earlier this year, Liverpool signed Senegalese defender Mor Talla N’diaye and Austrian centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe after they impressed at the U17 World Cup in Qatar.
The club have also recruited goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Hungary and midfielder Samuel Martinez from Colombia over the past 12 months. Pecsi is spending the current season on loan at TSV Hartberg.
