The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has condoled with the government and people of Jigawa State and the royal family of the Gumel Emirate over the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II.
A statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, on Friday, said Adeniyi was represented at the funeral prayer held at the Gumel Emirate Palace by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu.
Adamu conveyed Adeniyi’s condolences to the royal family, the Gumel Emirate and the government and people of Jigawa State, describing the Emir’s death as a significant loss to his people and the nation.
He said the late traditional ruler would be remembered for his years of selfless service, commitment to peace and unity, and concern for the welfare and development of the Gumel Emirate.
According to him, the late Emir also supported the Nigeria Customs Service and other government agencies operating within his domain in their efforts to safeguard the nation’s borders and promote legitimate trade.
“On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Gumel and the government and people of Jigawa State,” Adamu said.
“At this difficult moment, we share in their grief and pray that Almighty Allah grants the deceased eternal rest and gives his family, subjects and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.”
The funeral prayer was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the governors of Jigawa and Kano states, traditional rulers, government officials and thousands of mourners from within and outside the state.
The late Emir reportedly spent 46 years on the throne, making his reign one of the longest in the history of the Gumel Emirate.
