NNPC, NORINCO Explore Energy Partnership

By Ayomide Otitoju

NNPC Limited hosted a delegation from China North Industries Group Corp. Ltd. (NORINCO Group) on Friday to discuss cooperation on energy infrastructure, crude oil production, gas commercialization and trading, technology and investment.

The delegation was led by Zuxi Huang, vice president of China Zhenhua Oil Co. Ltd., a NORINCO Group subsidiary. NNPC’s Group Chief Financial Officer Dapo Segun and Executive Vice President for Gas, Power and New Energy Olalekan Ogunleye received the group, with other company leaders joining virtually.

The two sides exchanged views on their business interests and weighed how a partnership could add value to NNPC’s operations, boost crude oil and gas production and strengthen Nigeria’s energy security.

The talks come as international investors turn toward Africa’s energy sector, where countries are working to expand gas use, close electricity gaps and meet rising demand. Nigeria, which holds Africa’s largest proven natural gas reserves, remains a leading destination for energy investment, and NNPC continues to court partners with the technical expertise and capital to expand the country’s infrastructure.

NNPC has previously worked with Chinese firms, including on the Abuja Independent Power Plant project involving China Machinery Engineering Corp. and GE Vernova.
