To commemorate the 2025 International Day of Education, Airtel Nigeria organized a nationwide essay competition, showcasing the creativity and talent of primary school pupils across its adopted schools. The initiative, held under Airtel’s Employee Volunteer Scheme (EVS), underscores the telecommunications company’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and empowering young learners.
Open to pupils in Basic 4 to 6, the competition centered on themes of education, technology, and community development, aiming to sharpen writing skills, promote critical thinking, and inspire self-expression. Airtel employees actively participated as mentors, judges, and facilitators throughout the competition, guiding pupils in the final stages of the event.
Speaking about the initiative, Airtel Nigeria CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, said, “This essay competition reflects Airtel’s dedication to nurturing the potential of young minds. By providing a platform for self-expression, we are empowering students to share their ideas and inspire positive change in their communities.”
Participating schools included Oremeji Primary School II in Ajegunle, Lagos; St John’s Primary School in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State; Iyeru-Okin Primary School in Offa, Kwara State; Community Primary School in Ezinihite Mbaise, Imo State; Presbyterian Primary School in Ediba, Cross River State; Yahaya Hamza Primary School in Zaria, Kaduna State; and Government Day Primary School in Pantami, Gombe State.
The final round featured 15 top participants from each school, with winners and runners-up selected by a panel of judges. Prizes such as digital tablets, books, mathematical sets, and writing tools were awarded to 14 champions nationwide.
This competition is part of Airtel Nigeria’s Adopt-a-School program, a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at enhancing educational development in underserved communities. By equipping students with skills and confidence, Airtel Nigeria is fostering a brighter future for the next generation.
