The ancient city of Akure, Ondo State, came alive on Monday as political leaders, traditional rulers, and dignitaries from across Nigeria gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of elder statesman and Pan-Yoruba leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, described Fasoranti as a moral compass whose life reflects courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to public service. He said the centenarian belongs to a generation that shaped Nigeria’s history rather than merely witnessed it.

Tinubu praised Fasoranti’s lifelong advocacy for justice and the underprivileged, noting that he has consistently prioritised principle over convenience across Nigeria’s colonial, military, and democratic eras. He also commended his contributions to education, democracy, and nation-building, praying for his continued good health.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the celebrant as a “towering moral authority” and living institution whose 100 years embody discipline, integrity, and selfless service. He said the milestone represents not just longevity but a legacy deeply rooted in Nigeria’s moral and historical fabric.

Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko also hailed Fasoranti as a symbol of dignity and principled leadership, noting that the elder statesman insisted the celebration be held within his residence.

Other dignitaries at the event included Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, former Osun State Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore, and several lawmakers and top government officials.

Traditional rulers in attendance included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye; the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi; and the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo.
