The Anambra State Government has announced a Gen Z–focused City Block Party as the opening event of the 2025 Ọnwa Dezemba festivities, scheduled to hold on December 18 at 6:00 pm at the Awka City Stadium, Solution Fun City.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Christian Aburime, said the event is designed to set the tone for the festive season by engaging young people through music, dance and contemporary entertainment.
Aburime explained that the City Block Party will feature live music performances, dance battles and DJ sets blending afrobeats, amapiano, hip-hop and modern highlife, creating a platform that reflects both global trends and local culture.
According to him, the initiative underscores Governor Soludo’s youth-friendly agenda, aimed at positioning Anambra as a safe and attractive destination for young people during the festive period. He added that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
“The City Block Party is not just entertainment; it is about giving Gen Z a sense of ownership of the festive season and reaffirming their place as key drivers of Anambra’s cultural and creative future,” Aburime said.
He noted that the event will also provide opportunities for social interaction, creative expression and the promotion of local talent, while encouraging youths in the diaspora and across major cities to return home for the celebrations.
The City Block Party marks the first in a series of activities lined up for Ọnwa Dezemba 2025, which includes carol services, cultural festivals, comedy shows and music concerts across the state.
Aburime urged young people to turn out in large numbers and be part of what he described as a vibrant and historic start to the end-of-year celebrations in Anambra.
