Several people have been killed and properties destroyed following a bandit attack on Doma Community in Tafoki, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State. The incident occurred at around 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
Armed with weapons including AK-47 rifles, the assailants reportedly invaded the community five months after a peace agreement had been reached, in what local authorities described as a suspected reprisal attack.
Faskari LGA Chairman, Sirajo Daudawa, said at least 20 people were killed, with several houses, shops, and vehicles set ablaze, leaving many residents homeless. “Security agencies were duly informed, but none arrived until the bandits had completed their attack,” he added. The bodies of the victims were retrieved and are scheduled for burial on Wednesday morning.
Daudawa extended condolences to the affected community and Katsina State residents, praying for divine intervention to end the cycle of violence.
Police Condemn Attack, Deploy Additional Forces
The Katsina State Police Commissioner, Bello Shehu, condemned the attack and directed the deployment of additional resources to investigate and apprehend the perpetrators. According to a statement released by the Police Command spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, operatives from the local police, the military, and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) were sent to the scene.
Shehu confirmed that 13 people were fatally shot before security forces arrived. He added that normalcy has since been restored in the area and promised updates as the investigation progresses.
