Washington, D.C. – Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, 78, was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center on Monday after developing a fever, his office announced.
“President Clinton was admitted this afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever,” said Angel Urena, his deputy chief of staff, via social media platform X. Urena added that the former president “remains in good spirits.”
Clinton, who served as president from 1993 to 2001, has faced a series of health challenges over the years. In 2004, he underwent a quadruple bypass surgery at the age of 58 due to extensive heart disease. Six years later, he had stents implanted in a coronary artery.
The health scare prompted him to adopt a healthier lifestyle, including a vegetarian diet, and he has since been vocal about his efforts to manage his health. His most recent health issue was in November 2022, when he tested positive for COVID-19. At the time, Clinton reported mild symptoms and expressed gratitude for being vaccinated and boosted.
As the second-youngest living U.S. president after Barack Obama, 63, Clinton has remained active in diplomatic and humanitarian efforts in the two decades since leaving office. His presidency, marked by economic prosperity, was also overshadowed by political scandals, but he has since leveraged his post-presidential years to engage in global philanthropic initiatives.
Clinton shares his birth year with former U.S. Presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump, who were born just months apart. Further updates on his condition are expected as he continues to undergo medical evaluation.
