The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, has apprehended 49 individuals during an overnight operation aimed at enhancing security and maintaining order in Ikoyi and Victoria Island.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, detailed the operation conducted on Monday night. The patrols targeted key areas including Idowu Martins, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Akin Adesola, Samuel Manuwa, Muri Okunola, Ajose Adeogun, Lugard Avenue, and Macdonald Road.
“The dedicated operatives of LAGESC covered strategic locations in Ikoyi and Victoria Island,” Wahab said. “The operation resulted in the apprehension of 49 individuals involved in illicit activities, reaffirming our commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for residents and businesses.”
The commissioner emphasized that the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to secure Lagos and promote order across its neighborhoods.
Wahab expressed optimism about the operation’s success, noting a noticeable improvement in the atmosphere of the affected areas.
“Calm and sanity are gradually returning to Ikoyi and Victoria Island,” he said, urging residents to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring their communities’ safety.
He further encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity to authorities, emphasizing that collaboration is key to maintaining security.
“Your continued cooperation is vital,” Wahab stated. “Together, we can build safer communities.”
The raid underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to addressing urban challenges and fostering a secure environment for all inhabitants.
