Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World has continued its dominance in Nigerian cinemas, amassing nearly N300 million in ticket sales within three weeks of release.
According to data from the Nigerian Box Office, the film grossed an additional N43.9 million between February 28 and March 2, pushing its total earnings to N298 million. Distributed locally by FilmOne Entertainment, Brave New World debuted with a record-breaking N137.5 million in its opening weekend, marking the biggest premiere of 2025 in Nigeria.
The film also topped the Nigerian box office for the weekend of February 14–16, reflecting the country’s increasing enthusiasm for superhero blockbusters. Within its first two weeks, Brave New World had already accumulated N226 million, adding N57.2 million between February 21 and 23.
While the film remains a strong performer in Nigeria, its global box office trajectory presents challenges for Marvel Studios. Directed by Julius Onah, the film marks Anthony Mackie’s first solo outing as Captain America following his transition into the role in Avengers: Endgame.
Internationally, Brave New World has held the top spot for three consecutive weekends, but concerns remain over its overall performance. Despite securing the No. 1 position domestically with an estimated $15 million this past weekend, its success was overshadowed by the 2025 Academy Awards, with fewer major releases entering the market.
To date, the film has grossed $341.8 million worldwide, surpassing The Incredible Hulk (2008) at $265.5 million and The Marvels (2023) at $199.7 million—Marvel’s lowest-grossing title to date. However, industry projections estimate that Brave New World may conclude its theatrical run around the $400 million mark, positioning it alongside Eternals ($401.7 million) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($432.2 million).
Unlike those films, which faced pandemic-related disruptions, Brave New World had an unrestricted release, making its underwhelming global earnings a growing concern for the studio.
Critical reception has been mixed, with the film holding a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audience feedback has been considerably more positive, reflected in an 80% approval score from general viewers.
