The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State Chapter, has called on the federal and state governments to urgently step up efforts to alleviate citizens’ hardships and tackle persistent insecurity across the state.
In its Easter message titled “Be Hopeful, Be Resilient, Be Compassionate,” Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, State Chairman of CAN and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, urged Christians to extend love and support to vulnerable groups, including widows and orphans, in line with the spirit of the season.
Describing Easter as the joyful climax of the Lenten period, marked by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, Bishop Yohanna said the celebration reflects hope, renewal, and God’s enduring love, citing 1 Corinthians 15:3–4.
“We urge the Federal and State Governments to take decisive steps to alleviate the sufferings of the people and bring an end to the insecurity that has ravaged our communities, claimed innocent lives, disrupted farming activities, and displaced many of our citizens,” he said.
Bishop Yohanna also called on residents to remain steadfast in prayer, emphasizing unity, peaceful coexistence, and divine guidance for leaders, particularly Governor Umaru Bago. “Let us pray that God grants him the wisdom and strength to effectively pursue and actualise the ‘New Niger Agenda.’ It is our hope that all ongoing projects will be completed for the benefit of the people,” he added.
The CAN Chairman encouraged citizens, especially Christians, to actively participate in the 2027 general elections, highlighting civic responsibility as key to shaping the state and nation’s future. He further stressed the need for inclusive governance and urged all residents to embody love, mercy, compassion, and selfless service as living examples of the Risen Christ.
