In celebration of International Women’s Month, CANAL+ has paid tribute to the women whose talents and influence continue to shape storytelling and entertainment across Africa and beyond.
The company recognised women as storytellers, athletes, mothers, creators, leaders and icons whose voices inspire millions of households across the continent. According to the media group, women remain central to the African entertainment industry, serving as actresses, directors, screenwriters and producers who bring authenticity and depth to a wide range of productions.
From engaging telenovelas and popular comedies to powerful drama series, female creatives play a pivotal role in delivering many of the most widely viewed programmes on CANAL+ Group channels.
To honour their contributions, CANAL+ and its subsidiary MultiChoice launched a special campaign titled “We are… because she is.” The initiative features a 90-second promotional film produced in both French and English, which will be broadcast on the group’s television channels and social media platforms in more than 35 African countries.
Actress, producer and cultural influencer Nomzamo Mbatha, known for her role in the series Shaka Ilembe, described African women as resilient and transformative figures. “To be a woman in Africa means to be disruptive. There’s something inspiring, strong and relentless about African women… and that resilience is what makes us unstoppable,” she said.
As part of the celebration, viewers are encouraged to explore a selection of women-led programmes on the CANAL+ platform, including Les Coups de la Vie Season 4, The Penthouse Season 2, and the new season of Nouvelle Reine. Additional titles available on DStv and GOtv platforms include the popular The Real Housewives franchise and Girls Trips on Mzansi Magic.
The campaign underscores CANAL+’s commitment to amplifying female voices and celebrating the impact of women in entertainment across Africa.
